A donation ceremony for the provision of 500 metric tons of rice (10,000 bags) from Myanmar to Sri Lanka was held on 13 January 2026 at the Asia World Port Terminal in Yangon.

The ceremony was attended by the Chief Minister of the Yangon Region Government, U Soe Thein, along with regional ministers; the Deputy Minister from the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement; the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Myanmar; the Director General from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and the Chairman, Vice Chairmen, and Executive Committee members of the Myanmar Rice Federation.

During the ceremony, the Chief Minister formally handed over the donation documents to the Sri Lankan Ambassador. Attendees also inspected the containers loaded with rice bags ready for shipment at the port.

The donation was made in response to the severe flooding and landslides caused by Cyclone Deva, which struck Sri Lanka on 28 November 2025. Under the leadership and arrangement of the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, emergency humanitarian assistance was extended. The donation of 500 metric tons of Emata 10% rice was jointly contributed by the Government, the Myanmar Rice Federation, and its member companies as part of coordinated relief efforts.
